I do not mean to imply that stopping pulling and picking is easy. NO WAY. Pulling and Picking are behaviors your body has learned as a coping tool to deal with stress or to wake up or calm down your nervous system.
You feel better when you pull and pick. While you are engaged in the behavior it feels good or you zone out. It is your drug of choice.
You may not feel better AFTER you pull and pick.
